The dispute of salt – The third knowledge on natural salt

Natural sea salt, known as “the essence of the sea”, which contains a balanced variety of essential minerals. This was the initial salt taken by our ancestors. However, modern civilization has dumped a large amount of industrial wastewater and domestic sewage into the sea therefore “the essence of the sea” has consequently become dirty and polluted. Due to the circumstance, salt, that is indispensable to people, has given us a “worried and hazardous feeling” while consuming it. This is because people know once the heavy metals, like lead, mercury, chromium and cadmium are taken accompanied with salt into a human body, this heavy metals will be difficult to be discharged and become a kind of sediments and form toxins in the body. In other words, salt itself is harmless, but the toxic substances contained in the salt are harmful to all human being. As a result, the natural sea salt must be processed before being consumed. Thereupon, “table salt” is made. After being processed, the salt has though ensured the hygienic conditions, those essential minerals for human body have also been eliminated during the process. Consequently, the process also destroys the nutritional balance found in salt. In other words, “table salt” may seem clean, but the heavy-metal contamination in the salt, thought as the number one killer in the era of pollution, is yet eliminated owing to the insufficiency in the technologic process. This has even also highlighted the heavy-metal components due to the filtration of the essential minerals. Strictly speaking, it is more appropriate to consume less “table salt” in our diet. In order to enhance the standard of salt, there are many industries founded in our country to produce the “table salt + calcium,” “table salt + potassium”, “table salt + zinc” and “table salt + selenium”; the so called “seasoning salt”. Since the addition of some trace elements and minerals, this salt has been referred as “nutritious salt” or “multi-variety of salt”. Here, there are two points needed our attention.

First, this kind of salt isn’t significantly the true “nutritious salt” though it is a rather superior to the “table salt”. Be more specific, salt itself must contain more than 60 kinds of minerals and trace elements. But the “nutritious salt”, not only its nutritional content is obviously insufficient, but also shows its deficiency in its types.

Second, the so-called “seasoning salt” is made of the table salt. The major process of the “table salt” in our country adopts the method of evaporation. However, in the process, it is difficult to eliminate a part of the contamination, especially heavy metal contaminations. From the view of national standard salt GB5461-92, the standard content of lead limits of not more than 1 (mg / kg). (In fact, this aspect has clearly clarified that the table salt that we take still remains a small amount of heavy metals.) Once these heavy metals enter human body, due to the difficulty in discharging them and they will eventually form toxins in the body. Therefore, the so-called “seasoning salt” is not a real type of nutritious salt. In addition, the table salt contains a great deal of impurity, such as the anti-coagulated agents, used to prevent the coagulation of salt. In the conclusion, the salt with shiny externals may not exactly be the “clean” salt.

Bamboo salt is an example of all processed salt: it takes the above-mentioned shortcomings of table salt into consideration. In the late 80s in 20th century, Korea launched the first bamboo salt, called the “healthy salt”, aroused worldwide attention at that time. In brevity, bamboo salt is made of natural sea salt which is stuffed into bamboo tubes then burned by pinewood fire for several times. In the process of bamboo salt, natural sea salt, bamboo tubes, pine, turpentine and loess are needed. To use these special mixed materials that above have mentioned, the toxins in the salt will obtain maximal neutralization and elimination through pyrogenation at high temperature at the same time the medicinal properties in the salt may also be remained and enhanced maximally. Because of its excellent prevention and treatment towards various modern diseases caused by polluted toxins, it has undoubtedly become the most brilliant healthy salt among the others.

The popularity of bamboo salt will herald the new chapter of the true “healthy salt era”.
